WWE Byte This Review
November 3, 2004
Hosts: Marc Lloyd w/ Droz
Guests: Maven, Miss Jackie and Chavo Guerrero
Report by Michael KopStick, Torch Face-Turning Contributor

Maven joins the show and talks about his defeating Batista. When he challenged Batista to that match, he says, it was because “when you want to make a name for yourself, why not go for the big man.”

WWE and TE is about heart and determination, Droz’s rookie tells us. Maven says that looking back, he never dreamed that being in WWE would take this much work and commitment, but he is so happy to be with the company and on the road with them. Even though he is still wrestling he is still a hardcore fan of the business and delights in the fact he can participate in programs with A-caliber talent that is he still a fan of in many ways.

An indy wrestler calls into Byte This to share Maven’s sentiments, saying that when he is backstage with “the greats,” people like Buff Bagwell and Greg the Hammer Valentine, he feels like a kid in the candy store.

Maven reveals to us that he now travels on the road with Randy Orton (a very interesting note in understanding two things. One, now that Randy is out of Evolution, he has to ride separately from them, weird because even in the 1990s I saw the Big Bossman and Nailz riding in the same vehicle together to a Maple Leaf Gardens house show, so WWE’s line of katfabe is even stronger/stricter now than it was twenty years ago. It is also worth taking note of Maven and Orton’s travel plans because it might help to explain how Maven got shot to the main event all of a sudden. Since Randy was out some driving buddies, he has restarted the friendship he had with Maven back from when they were training together in Ohio Valley, and now that they decided to share rides with each other, Orton probably began to notice the passion Maven has for his business and thought to call that to Triple-H's attention. Maven has suddenly made friends with the right people and his determination added with that made everything pay off for him. Good business strategy on the part of Maven for his diamond travel-buddy choice.)

Maven says that Randy is still a fan of the business and that you have to be to stay in the game. When you're not a fan, that's when you have to take a step back and wonder what you're doing still at the show, he says. Maven then says goodbye to play with his WWE trading cards.

It should be noted that I don't really agree with the above asumption this fan is making. It almost seems as if he is stating Maven is getting his push partly because of who he knows and/or hangs out with. I honestly think its a case of right place, right time and right preperation to be ready for this very moment.
