In my humble opinion, New Year’s Revolution is a one-match show. The hype for this event has centered around one match and honestly that’s not a bad thing. The main event at this show will be very strong, I have little doubt about that. Considering the competitors in that match and the stipulations, it should be excellent. That said, if you’re looking for a stacked card for a PPV you’ve come to the wrong place. While some of the midcard matches could be okay, it’s not like I’m expecting any of them to get plenty of time to play out and lead to some surprising undercard classic match. A plus for this show is that it’s the first WWE PPV in Puerto Rico. Should be interesting. I imagine the crowd will be really excited, which will lead to good things. On with the show.
Intercontinental Championship
Shelton Benjamin © vs. Maven
I like both guys, especially Benjamin. I just wish there were more to this feud here. I think Maven has a lot of potential as an arrogant heel as opposed to being a goody babyface that fans are supposed to like because he smiles a lot. That won’t work in this day and age, unless you’re really campy like Eugene. I like how they’re using Benjamin, pushing him as this hard-working kid that deserves your praise because he has made his career by busting his ass. Both guys have bright futures, although I’m not sure how well they’ll do together in this match. While I believe Benjamin will be a superior worker sooner or later, he’s not there yet. Maven still has to show me a lot more in his matches. I’m expecting a match that gets a maximum of like ten minutes and a minimum of about seven or eight. They’re not ready for more than ten minutes, I don’t think. I could see the win going either way, but I’ll pick Benjamin only because I think they need to build up Maven more and will get the belt on him fairly soon, just not at this show.
Winner: Shelton Benjamin
