If I Was A WWE Booker- July 3, 2005

First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is Drew, and I also work for MH.com's sister site, LiveWireWrestling.com. This is my first column for MH.com so send me your feedback if you'd like.
Maven Huffman has had many highs and lows throughout his career, ranging from main eventing Survivor Series 2004 to losing to Val Venis on Heat. After a shaky beginning to 2005, Maven finally started gaining some momentum, partnering himself up with WWE rookie Simon Dean. After tagging together for a few months, Simon Dean got moved to Smackdown in the 2005 draft, leaving Maven by himself on Raw. Now, the question on most people's mind is: Where does Maven go from here? Michael goes in depth on that topic in his column, so read that if you haven't. I am going to say what I would do with Maven at this point if I were a WWE booker.
I'm sure everyone remembers New Years Revolution when Maven lost to Shelton Benjamin twice, with each match lasting only a few seconds. Now that Shelton Benjamin isn't the Intercontinental Champion anymore, it's Maven's time to move foward towards the belt once again. I know what you're thinking: A Heel vs Heel fued, it wouldn't go over so well with the crowd. What I would do is add Shelton Benjamin to the mix. Sure, Maven lost to Benjamin, but this is a way Maven can go for the belt without it being too farfetched. Shelton is still looking to get redemption on Carlito for cheating to win the IC title from him. Maven comes out and says that Benjamin lost his chance already, and says its his turn to face the champion, which leads to a triple threat match at Summerslam.
As a result of the fued between the three men, Maven would build himself as a serious contender despite losing his tag team partner Simon Dean in the draft. Maven would win the title at Summerslam CLEANLY, hitting his new chinlock backbreaker finisher on Carlito for the win. Shelton Benjamin complains the next night that he wasn't pinned in the match, so he should get to face Maven for the title, thus restarting a fued between Maven and Benjamin. Though they fueded before with Maven losing to Benjamin on numerous occasions, Maven has one thing this time that he didn't have as much of last time: confidence. After winning the title, Maven has a reason to be confident, and his new found confidence shows through his in-ring work. As a result of his new, hard hitting style in the ring, the Maven/Benjamin fued is made more believable without Benjamin squashing Maven like he did before. Now, whatever happens from there is irrelevant, as both men have a credible fued under their belts.
Though WWE seems to have a lack of faith in Maven, this would be a smart way to go if they wish to build Maven up to be a force in the business, and eventually possibly a main player in the business. I guess we will have to wait and see what's up next for Maven after the loss of Simon Dean, but this is what I would have happen currently if I was a WWE booker.
Until next time,
Drew
